Google Requires Employees to Work In Office For Three Days Per Week

Google, the tech giant, has updated its hybrid work policy, mandating that workers must be present in the office for a minimum of three days per week. As per a recent report, Google will keep track of employee attendance and take corrective measures against those who fail to comply with the new regulations.

A CNBC report revealed that most workers are expected to be in physical offices at least three days a week. Google’s HR chief Fiona Cicconi recently wrote an email to employees that included doubling down on office involvement.

In a statement to CNBC, Google spokesman Ryan Lamont said, “Our hybrid approach is designed to combine the best of personal interactions with the benefits of working from home part of the week. Now that we’ve been using this way of working for more than a year, we’re officially incorporating this approach into all of our workplace policies.”

The Company periodically monitors whether employees are complying with the office presence policy using credentials in the United States. The memo said the company will begin including their three days a week as part of its performance reviews and teams will begin sending reminders to employees “who are consistently out of the office.”

In an email from Google’s human resources director, remote workers who have already been approved are asked to reconsider their decision. “For those who are remote and live near a Google office, we hope you will consider moving to a hybrid work schedule. Our offices are where you are most connected to the Google community,” it said.

Another internal document noted that previously approved telecommuting requests may be revised if there are significant changes in business needs, roles, teams, structure or location.

In the memo, it was stated that, in the future, fully remote work will only be allowed in exceptional cases. Recent policy updates indicate that Google is working to get workers back into physical offices.
